04/05/10 CITY COUNCIL OPEN PUBLIC FORUM
The request is detrimental to Madison and Morgan County.  As currently proposed, the development: (1) would literally waste uniquely, situated and irreplaceable future industrial land for a use that appears to conform more closely to Transport/Communications/Utilities and would be best for the collective future of teh community to be sited elsewhere; (2) would be in too close of proximity to a groundwater recharge area and provide a long-term hazard on a site containing wetlands, floodplains, two state waters and a treatment plant...  [Open Letter]

03/29/10 MADISON-MORGAN CONSERVANCY LETTER
The need for Morgan County to have a functional and cost effective waste management plan is recognized. We are of teh opinion that Morgan County's current landfill ordinance is sufficient to meet our county's waste dispoal needs.  Even if there were a need for additional waste management capacity, the development of a landfill on the subject property would not be in the best interest of the county.  [Go To Conservancy Website]

03/11/10 DEMOCRATIC PARTY (Article Published)
The initial request concerns 518 acres, but the owners of the property have stated their intent to transpose their complete 1,100 acre tract into a dump that will eventually reach heights of 250 feet - 25 stories of trash.  This would make it the sixth largest landfill in the nation, and given the size of the project, it proximity to the interstate highway and rail lines...[Read Article]
